I’m Karen Phillips–a New Jersey-based Nutrition and Health coach who approaches nutrition from a whole-foods perspective. So instead of ‘eating healthy’ meaning sacrificing your life for ‘results’ and your taste buds for flavorless foods, I help you eat the foods that make you feel great, give you energy, and turn your body into the amazing life force it was designed to be.
I’m focused on delivering information and clarifying inconsistencies in current conventional nutrition information. I’m intrigued and passionate about emerging Integrative and Functional Medicine nutrition research, sports nutrition, juicing, superfoods, detoxing the body for optimum function and digestion efficiency, and food allergies and sensitivities.
My health and nutrition journey isn’t what you would expect, though. Rather than a story of dramatic turns, it is a story of dramatic results.
For years I was a busy film and TV producer. I was grabbing food on the go, always feeling tired, and burning the candle at both ends. Then, I became a mom to two amazing kids. I was “getting it done”, going through the motions of the day, busy and eating foods I thought were good for me, like home-cooked meals, lunches at Panera, and dinners out.
It was the typical “I think I’m healthy” person, but I was constantly afflicted with sinus infections, going on medication after medication. I had really sore joints and my skin was very temperamental, to put it mildly. I would fold laundry on the floor, and when I got up my knees hurt. In my heart, I knew I was too young for this. It took seeing a photo of me in a bathing suit at the edge of the pool on a family vacation to really snap me out of it. I couldn’t believe the person in the picture was supposed to be me.
I needed to make a change.
By making a few small, easy changes, I began to feel better than I had in a long time. So, I kept going.
And something simple…and amazing happened. I felt better. I was stronger (thanks, exercise), my skin improved, I stopped with the sinus infections and I had the energy and motivation to sustain it all.
It wasn’t any miracle-potion I took. It was the simple acknowledgment that I was moving forward. I was consistent. That was enough motivation for me to keep going. I wanted to be healthy not just for a week…but all the time.
So, how did I do it?
A self-proclaimed research nerd, I dove into every health program I could get my hands on, and the more I helped myself and my clients, I was driven to learn even more. I knew I could help other people see what could unfold for them on the other side: a vibrant, healthy way of living that made them look good and feel great. An approach to healthy that was fresh, fun, realistic and sustainable. Do-able.
Which is exactly how ViaNutrition was born. I devoted myself to more education in nutrition, holistic health, sports nutrition, and Neuro-linguisitic based training to uncover behavioral change. My background in these areas makes me uniquely qualified to help you with your health challenges and goals.
Here on my site is where I share my knowledge with you on nutrition, skin, health and how to make it happen for you!
My main goal is to make health fun and taste GREAT. If it doesn’t bring pleasure, results, or make you want more, why would you continue?
Seeing the forest through the trees
What I know is that true health is the opposite of deprivation, starvation, and restriction. The mind-body connection is extremely important in achieving optimal health and great health is the key to you thriving in your life. This is where an accountability coach comes in.
